Welcome

Introduction

Hi, I’m Mike. I’m a computer engineer who loves music. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist, which has been a good and a bad thing for me. For this project, I think it’s been more of a good thing.

When I first started this project my goal was only to integrate the Maschine MK3 with FL Studio. I wanted to be able to use a great hardware unit with a great DAW (Maschine Software wasn’t cutting it for me). One of the things I did really like about Maschine Software was the ability to play scales and chords. I was able to capture all of those scales and chords (and even more features like custom chord sets) with this integration project.

I made a special effort to retain the quality-of-life features that you get when using the Maschine hardware with the dedicated Maschine Software. For example, you will notice that the pad colors highlight the root note everywhere it appears in each scale, and hitting a pad will cause that pad to flash. Another example is the pad sensitivity. If you’ve ever tried to use a Maschine in MIDI mode, you likely have noticed that the pads are less sensitive than when you use it in Maschine Software. To be clear, sensitivity here refers to the pad trigger threshold, not the pad velocity curve. I was able to address this issue using a clever solution which you can read about in the “Pad Sensitivity” chapter of this manual.

I publicly released the initial version of this project in September 2022. Since then I’ve received a ton of positive feedback and also some great feature suggestions which I ended up incorporating into the project. One of the questions I get asked often is “Does this work with the Maschine <insert Maschine variant here>?” Initially I only supported the Maschine MK3, but today I am proud to announce that I support the Plus, MK3, Mikro MK3, MK2, & Mikro MK2.

In the spirit of FL Studio’s lifetime free updates policy, I offer the same. Each update is automatically sent out by email. If you have any questions or feedback, you can email me at support@mikey.audio and I will get back to you. You can also feel free to visit my YouTube channel and drop a comment on the relevant video.

The rest of this manual contains a chapter for each of the more complex topics. For simpler “What does this button do?” type of questions, check out the tables in the Quick Reference chapter.

Thanks for your support, and I hope you thoroughly enjoy this project and let everyone know about it!
